Keep Teaching supports faculty in developing their own strategies to continue to meet the needs of their courses in times of disruption to on-campus teaching and learning. Being prepared to offer many aspects of face-to-face or blended courses - whether by distance format or online - is an important part of planning for events that may disrupt normal campus operations.

Information here will walk you through putting the various parts of adjusting your course delivery to maintain academic continuity.

Selkirk’s Education Division has made it clear that the task at hand is to help students complete their studies.

In an effort to support instructors, the Teaching and Learning Institute has created a site in Moodle site "Selkirk Keep Teaching" where you will find curated resources, discussion forums, and a list of possible workshops (virtual), small group and one-on-one sessions where the Teaching and Learning Institution can provide educational technology and curricular guidance (i.e. planning evaluations).

To book a session please contact the Chair, Theresa Southam, tsoutham@selkirk.ca or 250-354-1088.

Some Potential Workshop/One-on-One Topics

Rethinking Final Assessments & Considering Exam Alternatives

If a significant evaluation remains in your course you should be asking yourself what learning outcomes your students still need to meet. We can help you redesign evaluations in an alternate format or re-weight your evaluations where appropriate. We can also advise you on how to prepare students for evaluations with digitized resources and informal assessments.

Using Our Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle

If you are not currently using our Learning Management System, Moodle, or if you have been using it for years and need additional support with video capture through Kaltura, or access to academic integrity tools such as Turnitin, we can help you adopt these tools and build the necessary communication with your students online.

Best Practices for Unsupervised Tests and Take Home Evaluations

Academic integrity is one of the seven emerging topics identified by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. We have practical advice for how you might reduce copying and academic dishonesty through raising the level of Bloom’s taxonomy, randomization, new ways of representing your course and considering open book evaluations and reflections.
