How to change your student name

As a student, you have the option to update your name in your student record.

If you'd like to use a preferred first name, you can update it by logging in to your student record. If you need to change your full legal name, please get in touch with the Registrar’s Office for assistance.

When your name changes, you will get a new user name [preferredfirstnamelastname] and a new email address [preferredfirstnamelastname]@edu.selkirk.ca.

1 day after your name is updated, your new user name and email address will be created, and you’ll receive an email with these details at your personal email address (e.g. andiesmith@gmail.com).

Once you receive this email, you can log in to your student account, Moodle, and other systems with your new information.

You will still have access to all your old emails and files.

How to change your preferred name in your student record

You can update your student record with your preferred name, along with your SIN, address, and emergency contact information.

Once you access your student record:

  1. Click Change My Address

  2. Enter your new Preferred First Name

  3. Click the Submit New Address button at the bottom of the screen.

Students registered prior to Mar 31, 2025

By default, your Selkirk email address uses your full legal name [legalfirstnamelastname]. If you would like your email address to use your preferred first name rather than your legal first name:

  1. Make sure your preferred name is entered correctly in your student record

  2. Submit an IT Ticket requesting that your student account and email address be updated to your preferred name. IT Services team will make this change and email your personal email address with your updated account information when the change is complete.

Students registered after Mar 31, 2025

Your Selkirk email address will be created using the format of [preferrednamelastname]. If your preferred name is changed in your student record, your email address will be updated to reflect this change.

How to change your full legal name

If your legal name changes, the Registrar’s Office will update your student record for you. You will be asked to provide documentation that your name has been legally changed. Email admissions@selkirk.ca with your request. Once the change has been entered in your student record by the Registrar’s Office Staff, you will be notified when your updated email address is ready to use.
