What's Happening?

Starting August 25, 2025, you'll add an extra security step to your student account. This protects your grades, transcripts, and personal information.

It's the same system all Selkirk staff already use.


When You'll See This

Next time you log in after August 25th, whether that's email, Moodle, or other student services.

Takes about 2 minutes to set up. One time only.

  1. Follow the prompts - the system guides you through it

  2. Done! Your account is now protected

After setup, you'll occasionally get a security code when logging in. Most of the time, login works normally.

Before setup: Make sure your personal email is updated in your student record

During setup: Follow the on-screen instructions, or contact IT if stuck

After setup: Contact IT if you lose your phone or need login support.

Q: Is this mandatory?

A: Yes, this security enhancement applies to all student accounts to ensure consistent protection for everyone.

Q: Will this slow down my login?

A: No - most of the time you'll log in normally. Security codes are only requested occasionally for extra protection.

Q: What if I don't have a cell phone?

A: No problem! Hardware security tokens are available at the Selkirk College bookstore. Contact IT to learn more about this option.

Q: Will this work when I'm off campus?

A: Yes! The security system works anywhere you have internet access - on campus, at home, or while travelling.

Q: What if I lose my phone?

A: Contact IT Support immediately. We can help you set up backup methods or transfer your security settings to a new device.

Q: Can I change my security method later?

A: Absolutely! You can update your preferences anytime through your Microsoft account settings, or contact IT for assistance.

Q: Will this affect logging into campus computers?

A: No, MFA is primarily for accessing your email, Moodle, and other online services. Campus lab computers have separate login procedures.

Q: What if I'm studying abroad?

A: The system works internationally! The authenticator app works anywhere, and text messages work worldwide (standard international messaging rates may apply).

Q: I'm having trouble with the setup - what should I do?

A: Don't worry! Contact IT Support right away. Our team is ready to walk you through the process step-by-step.
