Windows 11 Upgrade for Staff

Are you ready to upgrade to Windows 11?

This new operating system offers exciting features and improvements for your computing experience. To ensure a smooth transition, carefully review the steps below. Following these guidelines will make the upgrade process seamless, allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of Windows 11 without complications.

OneDrive

  • Sign in to OneDrive with your Selkirk College account on your current PC

  • Move all important files into your OneDrive folder, including:

    • Desktop files - yes, this means all your desktop files. They will be gone if not backed up prior to the upgrade.

    • Documents folder

    • Pictures folder

    • Any other personal work files

Turning on SYNC feature

  • Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon on your task bar

  • Select Settings > Backup > Manage backup

  • Ensure Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders are checked

  • Wait for the sync to complete (the OneDrive icon will show a green checkmark when finished)

Bookmarks

Note: Some browser versions may have slightly different settings.

🔵 Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (top-right corner).

  3. Go to Favorites > Manage Favorites.

  4. In the Favorites manager, click the three-dot menu again.

  5. Select Export favorites.

  6. Choose a location to save the .html file and click Save.


🟠 Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. Click the Library icon (or press Ctrl+Shift+B to open Bookmarks).

  3. Select Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks.

  4. In the Library window, click Import and Backup (top bar).

  5. Choose Export Bookmarks to HTML.

  6. Save the .html file to your desired location.


🔴 Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (top-right corner).

  3. Go to Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

  4. In the Bookmark Manager, click the three-dot menu (top-right).

  5. Select Export Bookmarks.

  6. Save the .html file to your computer.

 

Additional Items to Consider

  • Email signatures: your signature may need to be updated after the upgrade

  • Desktop shortcuts: these will need to be recreated unless backed up to OneDrive

  • Local application settings: Some applications store settings locally—check with Helpdesk if you have specialized software

  • Printers: Printers will be automatically reconfigured after the upgrade
