Frequently used tools for communication in Moodle are:

  • Forums/Discussions
  • Quickmail
  • Messages
  • Chat

Forums and Chat are added using '+Add an activity or resource' while Quickmail is a 'Block' that is added using 'Add a block'  (recall that editing must be turned on in order for you to see 'Add a block'), while Messages are accessed through individual Dashboards.
