Extra restrictions on attempts:

  • Require password:  Enter password for quiz. If left unchecked the password appears as bullets, checking on the pencil will allow you to change/enter the password; clicking on the magnifying glass will reveal the actual password.
  • Require network address:  Setting the IP address in this fields restricts access to the quiz from specific computer(s).
  • Enforced delay between 1st and 2nd attempts - If more than one attempt is allowed, set the delay time between attempt 1 and 2.
  • Enforced delay between later attempts - If more than one attempt is allowed, set the delay time between attempts 2 and   ?
  • Browser security - (click 'Show more'....) -

If "Full screen pop-up with some JavaScript security" is selected,

  • The quiz will only start if the student has a JavaScript-enabled web-browser
  • The quiz appears in a full screen pop-up window that covers all the other windows and has no navigation controls
  • Students are prevented, as far as is possible, from using functions like copy and paste

Security...nothing is 100% secure if it is on the Internet. The secure window restricts certain mouse actions and view options. Passwords and IP address specifications can be added to minimize cheating.

Additional measures to minimize cheating include:

  • Set a time limit on the test
  • Invigilated exams - alert the invigilator to periodically look at the computer monitor to ensure that the screen does not change from the exam view.   If invigilators are used for computer exams, include this requirement in your invigilation form.
  • Some of our labs have Safe Exam Browser installed.  Use this feature if available.
  • For on-site exams, activate Lans School to monitor and/restrict internet sites.
  • Have students surrender all their electronic devices...ie: iphones, ipads, etc. (They can set them on the chalk board rails in classrooms.  Also some students have more than one device.)

Overall feedback

Allows instructors to provide generic feedback based on the grade the student achieved.

For example, if you enter:

Grade boundary: 100%
Feedback: Well done
Grade boundary: 40%
Feedback: Please study this week's work again
...
Grade boundary: 0%,

The student who score between 100% and 40% will see the "Well done" message, and students who score between 39.99% and 0% will see the other message. That is, the grade boundaries define ranges of grades, and each feedback string is displayed to scores within the appropriate range.

The grade boundaries can be specified either as a percentage, for example '31.41%', or as a number, for example '7'. If your quiz is out of 10 marks, a grade boundary of 7 means 7/10 or better.
